for help but at times all we need is a pick
me up.
Meditation And Imagery To Relieve Depression
Why do I feel so sad when everybody is so
happy? How many times have you said that
to yourself or heard others tell you this?
Stress, anxiety, depression, holiday blues,
fatigue, change in sleep habits (either sleeping
more or sleeping less than normal), change
in eating habits (either eating less or eating
more than normal), cranky, irritated, enough
is enough. You deserve to relax and slow
down during the hectic times of the year.
You deserve to be happy. But we worry about
the future, or about our children or we feel
lonely and left out while everybody around
us is happy.
What I do is a combination of breathing exercises,
relaxation and relive a happy moment in the
past to help me go out and make new happy
times.
What I do to relax and feel better is the
following. Breath in for the count of three,
hold that breathe for the count of three
and now breath out for the count of three.
While you breath in close your right hand
tightly, very tightly. When you breath out
open that hand and feel how relaxed and calm
it now is. Now do this once again with both
hands and feel the loosening of the muscles
and how that makes your hands and arms feel
relaxed. Do the same with your toes and (tense
them up) and then relax them. Do this with
your stomach also, now your shoulders. Little
by little you can tense and relax different
parts of your body. Whenever you feel tense
in a part of your body just tighten up the
muscle and relax them again and feel the
easy sensation of calmness. Do not use this
technique if you feel tense in the chest
area. See your doctor as this could be a
sign of a serious illness. But do use this
when you get that tense feeling in the stomach
due to being sad and depressed. This relaxes
the body.
Now that you can relax your body the next
thing is to relax your mind and I use a simple
trick of imagination and memory. Remember
when you were happy and content. See yourself
in that memory as if on a movie screen. To
relive that wonderful feeling and help you
feel good all day just do the whole series
of breathing in relaxing the body and reliving
the memory. Now that you feel relaxed you
can go out and have a really great time because
we do live in the present but sometimes we
just need a little help from the past to
remind us to keep going on.
